Theo Red

As a designer and visual artist Theo Rooden (Sittard, 1969) is fascinated by the everyday and has an eye for patterns. The works are created through a process of endless repetitive actions: drawing, folding, rolling, gluing, cutting and, recently, weaving. There is always a plan and there are strict rules, but the result is unpredictable. So there is always curiosity during the making process. Even when the work is finished it remains a mystery how simplicity and complexity relate to each other. Weaving offers him infinite possibilities to play. The technique of the loom and the chosen binding put him on a track. His handwriting as a designer does the rest. The production in fabrics is still limited. Initially a collection of samples is created. These can be the starting point for autonomous or applied work.
