I am very busy with texture in my work, hence my love for graphics where you can print so many types of lines and textures in beautiful papers.
I also vary with the substrates on which I print; different kinds of paper, fabric or on painted linen, depending on whether the image is enhanced by it. Besides etchings and woodcuts I also make drawings; the most important in my work are the lines, moving, searching lines. This is the reason why I choose to make graphics I can make so many kinds of lines. A work has succeeded for me, if it continues to intrigue; when something happens that surprises me.My work may also feel a bit uncomfortable because I like 'active' work that keeps on singing and shivering.

Paul van den Berg
Atelier ARI is a Rotterdam design agency, founded in the summer of 2014 by Paul van den Berg and Joyce de Grauw. From a 19th century school building we design and experiment with a hands-on approach. We are constantly looking for surprising combinations and additions to the existing to create something special.
As a combination of an artist and an architect we operate in a broad field of spatial design, including public art installations, design and small-scale architecture. Together we convert ideas into special and feasible projects.
Joyce graduated Cum Laude from the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2007. During her studies she won several awards, including the Ronald F. Vermaas prize. After her studies she worked at various design agencies such as Doepel Strijkers and Architecten Van Mourik.
Paul studied architecture at HTS Rotterdam, TU Delft and UCD Dublin. His work experience consists of TU Delft, BAR Architects and ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles] and the founding of Paul Scales. Paul was involved in the design of public buildings, urban projects and the development of the Schieblock Rotterdam.
