My work is characterized by the fact that there is almost always a reference to water. I work on a project basis and use different materials and techniques. The Nieuwe Maas in Rotterdam, boats and sailing routes are a source of inspiration. The boats that appeared in my drawings and paintings soon became structures of wood and then carved out of stone.
After high water levels, everything remains on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas. From the washed up wood I collected in 2015 and 2016, I made a MAASWATERBIBLIOTHEEK.
In 2017 I made a paddle out of the prunings of my birch tree with the title: VLOT. The work is exhibited at De Fundatie in Zwolle on location 't Nijenhuis.
In 2016/2017 I prepared and developed the project DEAD WOOD LIBRARY FOR ICELAND. Xylotheken developed in the wooded areas of Europe in the time of the Enlightenment were my example. In August and September, on the beaches of this treeless land, I searched for and used as many different types of wood as possible for the installation. I was assisted by the University of Akureyri in researching the origin of the wood.
The installation is exhibited in Oláfsfjördur Iceland.
For 2018/2019 I am preparing a follow-up project on the work VLOT. Working title of the project is VLUCHTROUTE 2050. The route goes north to the Barents Sea and on the northernmost tip of mainland Europe I want to build a boat.
